I support my LGBT humans. ALWAYS.

So a lot has changed since I last posted. And like all changes, many times they are not for the best sometimes.
A couple days ago my brother came out to my parents as being bi. Though this was after we both had to endure phobic attitudes to anything related to the LGBTQ community. In this case, a commercial about Ellen Degeneres started it. My mom was saying how she was a “degenerate” all because she was a lesbian. Then my father started going on about how LGBTQ people wanting rights and getting married and not hiding the fact that they are gay or anything is robbing straight people of their rights.
It spiraled into this horrible screaming, back and forth texting to the point where my brother isn’t coming around here anymore. If I want to see him then I have to go somewhere else to see him. And honestly, I get that. When they asked if I was gay I told them I was in a way. And now everything is different.
I’ve stated in earlier posts about how my family is Mormon and how it makes a pretty big impact on how I see the world, especially being lesbian asexual as well. My mom was certainly in over head in all this, but honestly I can’t figure out her stance on the whole thing. One minute she’s talking about how she feels one way about people that are gay, and that it’s different when it comes to her own children. The next all people that are gay or trans or anything are abominations before God. I always knew that telling my family would never go the way I wanted it to, but I guess I never expected this amount of absolute hatred. She went on and on about “What does the Church say?” “If they tell me different then I’ll know how to feel.” Well guess what? The Church just released an announcement about the LGBTQ community.
“Children of parents who identify themselves as lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender may now be blessed as infants and baptized in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints without First Presidency approval, President Dallin H. Oaks announced Thursday morning, April 4. In addition, the Church will no longer characterize same-gender marriage by a Church member as “apostasy” for purposes of Church discipline, although it is still considered “a serious transgression.”The changes, issued at the direction of the First Presidency and announced during the leadership session for the Church’s 189th Annual General Conference, “do not represent a shift in Church doctrine related to marriage or the commandments of God in regard to chastity or morality,” wrote the First Presidency in an official statement released by the Church. “The doctrine of the Plan of Salvation and the importance of chastity will not change.”Instead, the changes reflect the continuing revelation that has been a part of the modern Church since the Restoration.”
Even after this announcement, my parents are just as vehement as ever. They just think that the church now is just “bowing down to the world and it’s abominations. Still, after all that they said, nothing changed. You know, it really rubs me the wrong way to know that even when the church that they claim to follow says that LGBT people should be treated better, they just push it to the side. Why is supporting LGBT people so bad, such an abomination? Isn’t the fact that the spike in LGBT youth suicides enough of a warning that things need to change, that people need love and support, not derision?
I live at home so it has seemed to add to everything. I’m not going to just be walked all over by all this. I’m going to continue my support. Though I’m wondering if that means that I need to be more vocal in my own gay aceness.
