A response to Ren Rants...

I had been perusing YouTube the other day when I came across a video that rendered me quite speechless. Ren Rants on the video that asexuals (primarily cishet aces) should not be a part of the LGTBQIA+ community left me staggered. So I prepared a response. As I like to make sure that anything I post publicly is understanding and rational, I am left with this response.

Hello, I just wanted to get my opinion out there. My OPINION. I know full well that people are individuals and have experiences that mirror that fact. I do know that I am on the fence about all this.

Although I am aware that asexuals do not receive the public oppression that many in the LGTBQIA+ community experience, I do think that there is a level of oppression that some may experience. I am not comparing. I don’t believe in comparing experiences.

I, for one, am an aromantic asexual and feel that I am a part of the LGTBQIA+ community. I feel like this is a big step for me as my family is EXTREMELY against anything that is not straight heterosexual. I cannot even let it be known in my own family that I am asexual. In this regard, I find comfort in the community as a means of support and understanding.

You say that many asexuals show a form of elitism (my word usage there) and that is something that I will not deny happens. I have seen it myself. But one thing I would appreciate is the cessation of generalization. I don’t think that it’s right to put every asexual into a box and call it good. I don’t feel elite in any way, shape, or form being asexual. In fact, I think that people finding a person to love and share their life with is a blessing however short or long the duration of the relationship may be.

I may not understand the all of the things that relationships entail, but I don’t judge. There are a lot of things in this world that I am not going to understand and I have accepted that.

I am cis-gender. But I am not heteromantic. I have read the previous comments in an attempt to not repeat things too much. But I will say this: I’ll not stop considering myself LGTBQIA+. That’s how I feel and I change for no person.

Your opinion is as valid as mine.

Good day to you.
